| Volunteer Opportunities at REST REST is in need of volunteers 365 days a year! Listed below are some of the common activities you may be asked to do depending on your hours of availability and our current need. All volunteers are required to attend a brief orientation. Volunteer Jobs Volunteer Application Volunteer Code of Ethics Volunteer Jobs OFFICE VOLUNTEERS (M-F, 9AM-5PM) Volunteers are needed to assist in the day-to-day operations of REST. Administrative assistance such as filing, mass mailings, etc. is often needed. We can also use individuals or groups to assist in picking up, sorting, and organizing donations. SHELTER ASSISTANTS (DAILY, 8 PM -10 PM) Volunteers are needed to assist in the nightly running of all three shelters. Help is needed in preparing, serving, and cleaning up dinner, as well as organizing the pantry and blanket room, and cleaning out the refrigerators. MEAL PROVIDER (DAILY, 8 PM 10 PM) Volunteers are needed to provide dinner for the clients in our shelters. Dinner is served every night between 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The menu depends on the volunteers culinary ambition and financial situation. Thus, the menu ranges from soup and sandwiches to three course meals with salad, entrees, and dessert. SUPPORT CENTER (DAILY, 8AM-8 PM) Volunteers are needed to assist staff with check in (sign in, handing out cups, monitoring shower schedule, etc). GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Group volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year in our shelters. Group volunteers are needed to assist with building upkeep and sorting and organizing donations. Group volunteers are also needed to do donation drives throughout the year. REST CARE CLINIC VOLUNTEERS Doctors, nurses and medical students volunteers are needed to provide basic physical health assessments, diagnosis, education, treatment, and referrals at our REST Care Clinic on Tuesday evenings. Specific services include routine physical examinations, blood pressure screenings, TB tests, flu shots, counseling and referrals, wound care, and blood sugar testing. PROFESSIONAL VOLUNTEERS In addition, REST needs: Individuals to serve on a committee, such as: event planning, fundraising, marketing, quality of life, etc. Technical experts to assist with computer related tasks. Instructors for a variety of topics such as: health education, art, daily living skills, budgeting and financial planning. Experts in human resources, real estate, management, and pro-bono lawyers to assist with legal matters |
